The Fells @ Garageshock '97

Hailing from Tuscan, AZ came this Real Kids inspired band. I seem to remember them being all the rage when their self-titled LP came out. However, oddly there is almost nothing to be found of them on the web outside of and old interview from Chin Music.
My personal memories of them was that they were pretty solid. I also remember lusting after a pretty brunette for the first couple of days of the fest, and being put off when I found out that her (seemingly) stuck up boyfriend was a member of The Fells. So maybe my judgment of them is a little bit tainted.

I'm Baaaaack!!!

I know I've been away from this blog for about 4 months, but I had reasons.
Reason #1: No web connection. It's funny how they shut that off when you can't pay the bill.
Reason #2: My hard drive crashed and I lost everything, including a few shows I hadn't posted yet. The stuff that was posted in the past I had saved on DVD-R so no problem there. However, the 3 of the 4 shows I had planned on posting are now lost to the data gods. I should be able to encode them again from the cassette masters, but it will take time.
So for now I went and re-uploaded all the past posts, and in some cases repacked the FLAC files so they are in one rar file.

GS on Youtube

I know it's been awhile since I have posted anything new, but having a family and work have kept me from being very active on all the internets. I hope to be able to post more in a few weeks when my office shuts down for the "winter break that just happens to land during the week of a major religious holiday, yet in no way implies that the company favors one religion over any others".
Now on to the meat of the post...

Thanks to the DoubleCrown blog, I was able to find some Garageshock clips on Youtube.

Site News

So I haven't uploaded any more sets lately. This is due to having to search for a better hosting options for the files. Currently I have been using SendSpace to house all the files, but it is only stores the files for 14 days after the last person has downloaded it. With the site being new that means that very few visitors are actually downloading the files (about 2% of all visitors grab something). That means I will have to upload the same files every 2 weeks until the site picks up interest. I could go to a site that will house the files for longer, but all of the ones I have found require downloaders to click thru banners or limit time between each file downloaded.
If I don't find a new hosting option soon, I'll just solider on and keep posting sets. Old sets will delete from the host and I'll worry about reuploading them when someone complains.
If you have any advise please leave it in the comments, otherwise get what you can now because it might not be here tomorrow.

Black Jack

I was going to wait and post this one after I'd run out of gems, but a recent posting on the GaragePunk.com forum made me decide to post it now.
Imagine your band getting signed to a happening label, and playing the very first slot of a major music fest. The imagine that the same night your dickhead of a lead singer gets beat up, your band gets kicked out of the rest of the fest, and your LP gets deleted from print. That's what happened to these 3rd level Misfits wannabes.
The story that worked its way thru the GS crowd went like this: During the bands set the lead singer made offensive comments about the Japanese acts that were on the bill. Later that night, at an after show party, he continued to tell racist jokes. He was confronted by Jay the drummer of The Makers, who quickly chose to kick his ass. While the mouth piece was still on the floor, Crider walked up and told the guy he wasn't welcome in Bellingham anymore. The band left town, and Estrus removed their LP from the next Crust Quarterly listing. In fact Estrus doesn't even mention the LP in the discography.
With the story the band is at least memorable, otherwise they would only be know as the worst band to ever play a Garageshock. They really sucked.
I was late getting into the club, so they were already into their first song when I hit record. It's no big loss, since just about ever song they do sounds like a horrible Misfits rip off. I remember the singer even sporting a devils lock.
I hate them so much that I didn't even bother to split the songs up. So it's just one 20 minute file.
If anyone knows more about this band, post it in the comments.

The Untamed Youth

If you have never seen the Untamed Youth live then (as Mr. T says) I pity you, because you missed out on seeing one of the best bands ever to grace this big blue marble. This recording of them at Garageshock '97 will help give you an idea of their remarkable showmanship, but if they ever announce a reunion and you are within 12 hour plane rides distance you must find a way to be front row center.
By this time the band had all but broken up and was only doing festival appearances, due to most of the members relocating to various places away from their Missouri birth place. In fact one of the reasons for the shuffling of the line up on this night was due to Mace needing to hurry back to Wisconsin for a college final.
As always you need all of their records (even the ones that are out of print), & go see Deke when he comes to your town with his Eccophonics.

Satan's Pilgrims @ Garageshock 97

They weren't scheduled to close out GS'97, but due to some scheduling mishaps with Man Or Astroman? and The Untamed Youth the order of the night got kinda shuffled around. After witnessing Satan's Pilgrims' set, I'd have to say that the night couldn't have ended on a much higher note.
Due to the limitations of using cassettes for recording, Track 17 is cut after only 51 seconds. Track 18 is the start of their encore. So if anyone has a more complete recording of this set let me know and I will replace it here. Also any help with filling in the titles in the setlist would be helpful.
Enjoy.

The Fallouts @ Garageshock 93

To kick off this blog, I bring you this legendary performance by The Fallouts. It contains classics from their first LP & Here I Come And Other Hits. Plus the tracks Sleep & Alone which wouldn't appear on LP for another year.
This reording is rough in some places, but the performance is strong enough to make it worth repeated listenings.
Dave & Dino are still going with new bass player Kim. Support them by going to see them when they come to your town, and buying their releases.
Enjoy.
